The One District One Product (ODOP) initiative of the Government of India aims to highlight unique local traditions, generate sustainable livelihoods and strengthen Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
In Sepahijala, wood and bamboo handicrafts have been selected as our ODOP product. These reflect a centuries old tradition of artistry, where nearly every household is engaged in bamboo and wood craft. The intricate and distinctive designs not only preserve culture but also provide livelihoods to many families.
To promote this heritage, the District Administration is working through convergence of schemes – PM Vishwakarma, MUDRA, Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and the Skill Development Mission. Our bamboo jewellery has already been showcased by NITI Aayog to distinguished dignitaries across the country.
We are also innovating for sustainability: water hyacinth from Rudrasagar Lake (a Ramsar site) is now being transformed into eco-friendly items such as file covers and office utility items, turning an ecological challenge into livelihood opportunities for women. We also look at this initiative as an enabler to district initiative to control child marriage and teenage pregnancy (Mission Sankalp) by providing livelihood opportunities to families who would otherwise marry daughters at a young age due to financial hardships.
As a celebration of this tradition, we are delighted to share with you some locally hand-crafted products from Sepahijala. We would be grateful for your suggestions to further strengthen these efforts. We also request your kind engagement in women empowerment and environment sustainability by purchasing office articles from these SHG women. Contact details of nodal person is given below:
